Tax Credits and Tax Deductions
Tax credits and tax deductions are
available from both state and federal sources. These incentives
exist for both renewable energy systems as well as for energy
efficiency retrofits. The available incentives are ever changing
with new ones being introduced and old ones being phased out.
Many incentives have an expiration date. Thus, one needs to keep
an eye on the incentives and their effective dates.
The organization, Database of State Incentives for Renewables & Efficiency (DSIRE), documents the available incentives for renewable energy and building energy efficiency retrofits. This organization is funded by the U.S. Department of Energy. They list both state and federal incentives. One can find the incentives available from the federal level and all the way down to the local utility. The link to the DSIRE website is www.dsireusa.org.
Energy House Technology monitors the renewable energy and energy efficiency incentives and advises on how they can be implemented to maximize the dollars invested.
