Energy Efficiency Services For Builders
Energy House Technology is an
expert in energy efficiency for buildings. We offer several
services to assist builders in
achieving energy efficient homes while balancing the Green home
options with profit potential. Our highly technical, talented
staff and high-tech tools are a great asset to home builders in
achieving cost effective energy efficient homes. Here is a list
of services offered:
Green Building Programs
Energy House Technology supports the Green Building programs as an independent third party verifier, energy modeler, and technical reference for choosing the optimal energy efficiency options. We provide training upon request for meeting the energy efficiency guidelines for ENERGY STAR, LEED, and FGBC programs. Click HERE to read more about Green Buildings.
Building Energy Modeling
Energy House Technology provides energy modeling for single family homes, commercial buildings, and LEED multifamily mid-rise buildings. Our energy modeling is used in numerous ways: energy code calculations, ENERGY STAR home programs, LEED certification with the ASHRAE 90.1, Appendix G requirements and HVAC sizing.
HERS Ratings
A HERS Rating is included in the Green Building Programs listed above. However, if a home is built with numerous energy features but did not follow a formal Green Building program, a HERS Rating Certificate can still be obtained and can be a valuable document in marketing the home. Click HERE to learn more about the value of a HERS Rating Certificate.
Energy Code Calculations
We often see the energy code calculations being done by a non-partial party. The energy code calculation exercise should really be used to weigh ALL building energy options. We believe this can be done best by an independent third party who is knowledgeable on all aspects of building energy efficiency. To read more about the importance of optimizing the energy code calculation process, click HERE.
Manual J, N & D HVAC Load Calculations & System Design
Many new homes are designed with HVAC systems that are well oversized. This increases the home building cost and negatively affects the comfort of the finished home. This is particularly true for energy efficient homes as their design requires significantly smaller HVAC systems due to unproperly accounted for energy efficient features. To read more about properly sizing methods for HVAC systems, click HERE. Energy House Technology provides this independent and objective HVAC load calculation and duct design.
Duct Smoke Leakage Testing at Mid-Construction
A properly sealed air duct system is one of the most critical energy features of a home when ducts are located in unconditioned space. Since the quality of the duct installation is the primary variable in a properly sealed duct system, the Third Party Duct Smoke Test provides a great Q&A process. A certificate is issued for the home which can be used to market the home and be supplied to the buyer. Click HERE to learn more about the value of a Duct Smoke Leakage Test.
Web Assisted Builder Partnerships for Data Posting
Energy House Technology has a partnership program with builders. A username and password is issued to builders where building data can be posted to share with other subcontractors. One example is posting Manual J Load Calculations. We can post the Manual J Calcs for all 8 orientations for a home model. This would contain the complete data set for each orientation as required by the State Energy Code. The builder can easily share these load calculations with HVAC contractors from our website to use in proposing their HVAC systems for the home being built. This puts a minimum time burden on the builder, while increasing the available options for the home. Another example would be posting solar system sizing information for bids on solar hot water and/or photovoltaic systems.
Energy Efficient Mortgage Calculations
Buyers of new energy efficient homes can qualify for a special loan called an Energy Efficient Mortgage (EEM). The guidelines for this special mortgage allows the buyer to stretch their qualifying income and obtain a larger loan amount. We provide the energy efficient savings calculations needed by the bankers to issue these loans. Click HERE to learn more about EEM's.
Tax Incentives
The tax incentives available for energy efficient homes is constantly changing. We can advise how these Tax Incentives can affect the energy features that are designed into new homes. This can often influence how a home is built if overall costs are to be minimized. Click HERE to learn more about Tax Incentives.
